AaB Aalborg-FCK 0-1 (0-1)

With the only goal of the game after 16 minutes, Michael Silberbauer secured F.C. Copenhagen their 8th victory in the last 9 games in the Super League. Silberbauer – playing in central midfield instead of suspended Tobias Linderoth – took advantage of a rare mistake by his former Aalborg-teammate keeper Jimmy Nielsen, who failed to clear a free kick from Hjalte Nørregaard.

For the rest of the first half it looked like another easy day at the office for Copenhagen, and AaB – who started very defensive – seemed to have too much respect for the champions, even though they are the only Danish team to have beaten Copenhagen so far this season, when they won 2-0 in PARKEN in August. But they had their reasons to play it safe from the beginning, knowing that in Aalborg they had only managed to defeat FCK once since 1999.

From the second half AaB came more forward, and after 10 minutes they desperately claimed a penalty kick, when Atiba Hutchinson seemed to pull Michael Jakobsen down during a cornerkick, but the referee did not agree.

Also from the second half, Ståle Solbakken had introduced Jesper Grønkjær, who played for AaB until 1998, when he left for Ajax Amsterdam. Grønkjær, still not 100 % fit after his groin injury, brought skill, pace and determination to the Copenhagen team, and he crowned a fine performance by hitting the post in injury time with a hard left-footer.

AaB’s biggest chance came in the 70th minut, when Mattias Lindström went very close , but Hjalte Nørregaard got in the way for his close range-effort, and the ball rocketed just over goal.

Silberbauers only goal of the game meant that Copenhagen stay top of the table, 3 points ahead of in-form FC Midtjylland, who took their 6th consecutive win – and what a top clash it will be on Saturday, when Midtjylland visit PARKEN!

Until then Ståle Solbakken and his squad will enjoy an entire week with almost a complete squad and no midweek-game. Danish national coach Morten Olsen has chosen to spare Copenhagen-players for Wednesdays friendly in the Czech Republic.
