Neestrup ready for Friday's season opener

F.C. Copenhagen's 2025/26 Danish Superliga season gets underway on Friday evening with a trip to Viborg – and head coach Jacob Neestrup is looking forward to getting started.

The Lions have enjoyed a fruitful pre-season at Number 10 and in the training camp in Austria. Now it's time to get competitive football underway for a new campaign, starting on Friday.

“Season openers are always special, and you always look forward to them a little more. It's also the opening match in the Superliga and we are also looking forward to that - and to seeing a lot of FCK fans behind the goal tomorrow,” says Neestrup.

“Of course we really want to start well, but first games can be difficult in a slightly different way than when you are in a rhythm in the middle of the season.

“We are going to Viborg to win but we also have great respect for an opponent that we have lost to three out of the last four times when we have played at their place in the league. We also know that they have been really good against the top four clubs, ever since coming up from the 1st Division.”

Preparations for the new season ended with Thursday's closed training at Number 10, which gave the head coach a chance to look back on a generally positive pre-season.

“We think we have had a good start. We have few injuries, the players have trained well and hard, and we were matched at a good level in the last game against Hamburg," says the boss.

“Now it gets serious, and we have to let our feet do the talking, but we are of course playing to win the Superliga again, and we will do that regardless of the outcome tomorrow. We expect every match will be difficult and this applies in particular to the opener in Viborg."
