Falk: Derby the perfect start to Championship Round
F.C. Copenhagen's Rasmus Falk says a sold-out derby against Brøndby in Parken on Monday is the ideal way to kick off the Superliga's Championship Round.
Denmark's top flight splits into two for the remaining 10 games of the season, with FCK competing with five other teams for the title.
Monday sees Brøndby rock up at Parken with just three points splitting the top three teams in the table.
The game is a sell-out and Falk is expecting another atmospheric afternoon in the home of Danish football.
"We are looking forward to getting started with the playoffs and kicking it off with a derby in Parken," says Falk. "It will be a very special atmosphere with a real spark and intensity.
"A derby win is always important but it's clear that with the league as it is, a win here will mean so much more. We know it, they know it, everyone knows it.
"We are facing a team that has done really well this season but we are also confident in what we can do. For us it's about controlling the game on our terms and showing how good a football team we are."
Fierce competition for the title
The Superliga's top six will play each other home and away this spring. Five of the six teams are within 12 points of the top, and FCK sit third – three points off FC Midtjylland.
FCK are defending champions and Falk knows the enormity of the task at hand.
"Our mindset has always been that we must win the league again," he says. "Therefore we must approach all matches as if they are finals. After all, we want to play against the best as much as possible, and we're going to face fellow teams who have excelled in this league. Of course we also want to show that we are the best when we meet the best.
"All games will therefore be extremely important and I think there are many teams that will take points from each other, because I think top six we have this year is really, really strong.
"I'm aware that Silkeborg have fallen off a little since the winter break but everyone gets to face each other now. Every point counts and that will make such a big difference between victory and defeat.
"There are two huge months ahead for us when everything has to be decided. It's great, it's what we want, and our focus is solely on lifting the trophy for the third season in a row."
FCK vs Brøndby kicks off at 2pm on Sunday.
