Felix Beijmo i København.

Beijmo: ‘We need to take F.C. Copenhagen back to the top’

F.C. Copenhagen's new defender Felix Beijmo says he's looking forward to playing for the Lions in Parken – and is determined to bring the Danish championship back to the capital.

Beijmo has joined FCK on a four-year contract from AGF, having helped the Aarhus club to the title last season.

Reflecting on his move to Copenhagen, the 28-year-old says: “I’m very proud and happy that everything has worked out so I can join F.C. Copenhagen. Even though it has been a difficult season, this is still the biggest club in Scandinavia, and now it’s our job to bring the club back to where it belongs. I’ll definitely do my part.

“For me, it has always been very special to play in Parken, and I’m really looking forward to it becoming my home ground. There’s just something about the club and the city that means when F.C. Copenhagen call, you answer the phone.”

The Swede joins FCK after making 120 apprances for AGF over the past three-and-a-half years. Beijmo has also represented Werder Bremen, Greuther Fürth, Malmö FF and Djurgården earlier in his career, and he is excited to don the white shirt of F.C. Copenhagen.

“It’s this culture of always wanting to be the best and expecting the team to win every single time that really appeals to me," he adds. "It suits my mindset perfectly. The expectations and pressure at a club like F.C. Copenhagen ignite something in me."

During his time in the Danish Superliga, Beijmo has proven to be a versatile player who can operate both as a full-back and in central defence. He sees that flexibility as a major strength.

“I feel completely comfortable in both positions," he says. "My focus is very simple: we need to win, and we need to bring F.C. Copenhagen back to the top."

Beijmo will wear the number 2 shirt at F.C. Copenhagen.
