Rodrigo Huescas back against HSV: Now I finally get to play again

After a year on the sidelines, Rodrigo Huescas is set to play on Sunday against HSV. The Mexican full-back was injured on 1 October 2025 in the Champions League match against Qarabağ, but he can now finally look forward to playing time again.

"I'm looking forward to playing on Sunday. My injury has taken a long time, and it's been a tough year, but now I finally get to play again."

"I've played football my whole life, and last season I missed a lot of big matches and couldn't help the team through the difficult periods. But now I'm finally back, and it's just about looking ahead."

Huescas has worked hard behind the scenes on his comeback, and with the help of a skilled staff and supportive teammates, it is now just around the corner.

"I'm really looking forward to it, because my teammates have supported me so much during this difficult period. They've helped me a lot, also after I returned to the training pitch, and I can't wait to help them again."

"The last part has actually almost been the hardest. I've been training fully for a while now, but it's still been about being patient so it was done the right way. It still is, but at least now I have some minutes to look forward to."

The 23-year-old Mexican can also look forward to quite a setting when he returns to the pitch, as it will be in front of 50,000 people in Hamburg on Sunday.

"It's going to be a great experience. Imagine returning to the pitch in front of so many people in such a great setting."

"I've missed being on the pitch, and I want to play now. I'm just excited and happy that I'm finally back."
