William Kvist returns to FCK

William Kvist has re-signed for FC Copenhagen.

The midfielder left the Lions in 2011 but after four years playing in Germany and England is back in the Danish capital.

And manager Ståle Solbakken welcomed back his former captain.

- We know what William stands for and he knows what we stand for, so this is a very good agreement, Ståle said.

- We are in a situation where we have had and still have many injuries and, with the return of William, we have increased our depth so we are sure that we can always field a strong presence in central defence or midfield without much compromise.

- At the same time William is a person and a player with great national and international success and experience that can help especially the young players both on and off the field.

- He requires a quick adaptation period and needs game time. It all starts on Monday for the reserve team.

Kvist, 30, has won five Danish championships with FC Copenhagen, boasts 42 international caps and was named the 2011 Player of the Year in Denmark.

- I want to help to build something here, Kvist said.

- I went abroad for the same reason and tried three times, without success. Now I come home to a place that I can feel is ready for something really exciting to happen.

- I want to help. It has always been a dream to return home to FC Copenhagen and it is important for me that I can do it while I can still contribute and give something.

- It feels the right time now. I come here to win championships and I have plan over the next five years, where we go out and challenge in Europe again.

- Copenhagen is my city. I love Copenhagen, I love Denmark and I love FCK, as I have been a fan since I was eight. I'm really looking forward to returning to the city and playing in Telia Parken.

Kist will wear the number six jersey at FCK and joins the club with immediate effect.
