Vetokele: - We could have scored more

Igor Vetokele admitted he was disappointed with FC Copenhagen’s 2-2 draw with Esbjerg on Monday despite scoring his third goal in four games for the Lions.

Vetokele cancelled out Jakob Ankersen’s opener before Christian Bolaños fired FCK into the lead, only for Ankersen to bury an injury-time penalty to peg the Lions back in the Superliga title race.

- The first 15-to-20 minutes weren’t good but we fought our way back. We played quite good actually. We maybe could have scored one or two goals more but in the end we performed quite good at home, created a few chances, but we had to finish it, he told FCKTV.

- I tried to do my best for the team and work as hard as possible. It was nice to score a goal but at the moment I’m very disappointed.

Ankersen silenced the PARKEN crowd just seven minutes in when he appeared at the end of a Jonas Knudsen cut-back across the box to side-foot Esberg into the lead.

Copenhagen laboured to find their rhythm before Vetokele headed the Lions level. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka came out to meet Bolaños’ cross but punched the ball back towards his own goal, where Vetokele leapt and headed just over the line before Michael Jakobsen could clear off the line.

Referee Michael Johansen gave the goal on the advice of his linesman and Copenhagen were 2-1 up before the break when Bolaños collected an inside pass from Pierre Bengtsson, took a touch on the edge of the box and rocketed a shot into the top left-hand corner of the net.

Copenhagen searched for a third but Cornelius and Margreitter failed to convert good chances. It looked as though Stale Solbakken’s men would come away with the win until Mushaga Bakenga was fouled in the box by both Claudemir and Margreitter, leaving Ankersen the job of sweeping in Esbjerg’s late leveller.
