Vetokele determined to keep on scoring

Igor Vetokele expressed his delight at coming off the bench to again score a winning goal for FC Copenhagen during the Lions’ 1-0 victory over AGF on Sunday.

The Belgian flicked on Pierre Bengtsson’s dangerous free kick just six minutes from time in an echo of the headed goal he scored against FC Nordsjælland in the DBU Cup semi-final last Thursday.

But Vetokele, who now has 11 Superliga goals for the season, insisted the three points was the most valuable prize at full time.

- It was very important to win, he told FCKTV. We have a big squad and we can rotate sometimes. Okay, I started on the bench today but I came on. It was 0-0 and I had to give everything to help the team.

- I just wanted to flick it a little bit and I touched it well and it went in.

- It’s been a good week but football is not about one or two games. It’s about a whole season so I have to try to keep up this level again in the next games.

Georg Margreitter came within inches of handing FCK an early lead but could not connect properly with a swirling Bengtsson free kick just two minutes in, before Rurik Gislason fired a neat effort wide.

Bengtsson saw a second-half shot cleared of the line and Andreas Cornelius squandered a great one-on-one chance as FCK searched for the opener.

The breakthrough finally came on 84 minutes when Gislason won a free kick on the right and left Bengtsson to whip in an inswinging cross onto Vetokele’s near-post head and over a melee of players into the net.

The goal secured FCK’s second successive win in the Superliga to push the Lions to within seven points of leaders AaB. Copenhagen next travel to FC Vestsjælland on Thursday, before a clash with EfB in PARKEN on Easter Monday.
