The season in brief

The season in brief

When F.C. Copenhagen began play in March of 2008, the team was in second place – only two points behind AaB. At the same time the team was in the quarter-final of the Danish Cup, meaning there were some hopes that the championship could be defended – and that a cup trophy also was within reach.

The first few matches seemed to prove that F.C. Copenhagen could go all the way, as they beat Næstved 2-0 to reach the semi-final of the cup – and also won the first league match 4-1 against Lyngby. From there on, it started to go the wrong way, as the team struggled to score, and at the same time allowed the opponents to get easy goals. As some point it seemed all the opponents had to do was take a shot towards the goal, and if it didn’t go straight in, it would be deflected by a defender, and leave goalie Jesper Christiansen helpless in the goal!

Especially the month of April was tough, as F.C. Copenhagen only managed to win one out of seven matches, and when the first game in May was lost 3-2 in Horsens, F.C. Copenhagen was to be found in 4th place, 11 points behind AaB – and as F.C. Copenhagen also had been eliminated from the cup by Esbjerg fB, it seemed hard to believe that the lions would win any titles this season.

F.C. Copenhagen did in fact not win any titles, but the team did in fact recover its winning form, and managed to win four out of the last five matches. Especially the 4-0 beating of the new Danish champions from AaB was impressive, and showed that F.C. Copenhagen still is one of the best teams in Denmark.

When the season ended on 24th of May, the players from F.C. Copenhagen could for the eight year in a row receive medals – but this year they were not made out of gold, but bronze.

The 2007/08 season has had its ups and downs, but there is no doubt that the team, the players and the organisation behind F.C. Copenhagen will work very hard to make sure, that AaB will have to return the trophy to F.C. Copenhagen next summer…
