Fireworks as Copenhagen progress

Records continue to fall

Thursday evening was a record breaking night at PARKEN, when FC Copenhagen took to Superliga action against FC Midtjylland. With the game ending 5-2 to the Lions, not only did they earn three points, but they also smashed national records, while others are nearing.

Before Thursday's victory Copenhagen and OB shared the Superliga record for the most home victories in a row. OB went on an 11-game home streak from March to August 2009 without conceding a point. Copenhagen equaled that tally at the start of the month when they beat SønderjyskE 3-0. The stretch goes back as far as 19 September 2010, with a 2-0 victory over Brøndby IF.

The record was therefore poised at 11 home league games, that is, until Copenhagen stuck five past Midtjylland on Thursday evening.

FCK are now the record holders, with 12 wins, and can make it a lucky 13 when they meet AaB in PARKEN on the final game of the season.

78 points and still counting

Copenhagen and Brøndby shared the record for the most amount of points earned in a single season before Thursday night. A 76-point total is impressive in itself, but hitting the 78-point mark with still two games remaining is a real achievement for FCK. The Lions have the potential to increase this record to 82 points, and no doubt will want to maintain their run of form that has seen such success this season.

Largest gap between first and second

OB and AC Horsens drew 3-3 on Thursday night, and with Copenhagen's victory over Midtjylland the gap between first and second place increased to 26 points. Since there are only two games remaining, the shortest gap possible is 20 points – if OB win both games and FCK subsequently lose theirs. Brøndby IF currently hold the largest gap of 14 points set in 1996/97. Therefore, the Lions have broken another record.

Besides the above records, FCK are still on the hunt for others. These include the fewest defeats in a Superliga season, currently three, and highest goal difference, +48. With Thursday’s 5-2 victory, Copenhagen cannot lose more than three games, while their goal difference is +49. Therefore, be prepared for some goalmouth action in the final two games of the season as FCK look to break these records in style.
