N'Doye strike hands Copenhagen title

Quartet to leave FC Copenhagen

FC Copenhagen play their final Superliga game of the season today against Odense BK in PARKEN. The club will be saying goodbye to four players whose contracts are expiring: Lars Jacobsen, Christian Bolaños, Georg Margreitter and Daniel Braaten.

Fans inside PARKEN have the opportunity to say farewell to the quartet today and manager Ståle Solbakken spoke to FCK.dk to provide some words of reflection on the departing stars.

Lars Jacobsen (260 games, 7 goals)

- Lars is an institution at FC Copenhagen and one of the players I’ve managed over two spells at the club. He has always represented both club and country in an exemplary manner. He leaves us at a time when we are well covered in his position with a Norwegian national team defender and Christoffer Remmer. Lars has had an important input in Remmer’s progress as his potential successor because of his human qualities and his leadership roles, and that says a lot about his class. Our departure from Lars should not be seen as anything other than the result of an unsuccessful negotiation process in an open and honest dialogue.

Christian Bolaños (138 matches, 17 goals )

- All teams need players who can do that little bit extra and Bolaños was an artist on the best team this club has had, when we qualified through the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. His first two seasons at FCK were at a very high standard, which during these last few matches of this season he has shown he still has in him, and we look forward to following his progress at the World Cup. In good times and bad, he has never put himself above the FC Copenhagen team. He has always brought a good spirit and collegial behaviour regardless of events on the field. We have long been in agreement with Bola that he needs new challenges and we have long confirmed that this is good-bye. Our time together has been good and memorable.

Georg Margreitter (19 matches)

- Georg has matured along with the playing time he has received in the last few months and he has shown his true potential. He is good in the heart of defence, has a great tackling ability and can play at both centre-back positions with the same quality. A rock-solid man on and off the field, he has proven worthy of the role we loaned him to fill. But a dialogue with George and Wolverhampton Wanderers has shown that it is difficult to extend the agreement, so he now must return to England and be Wolves player, and he can do that with a straight back and chest out high.

Daniel Braaten (27 games  2 goals)

- Daniel was picked up late in the transfer window to give us international power and consistency. He has done this in all our Champions League matches, where he probably was man of the match against Juventus and Galatasaray in PARKEN, where in the latter he was the match winner to extend the club’s proud European history. Daniel is incredibly well liked in the group and he has contributed significantly on and off the field, even though he himself is the first to acknowledge that performances in the Superliga have fluctuated more than in Europe.

Lars Jacobsen, Christian Bolaños, Georg Margreitter and Daniel Braaten will receive flowers on the field for their final match against OB. They all receive a big thank you for the efforts at FC Copenhagen and we wish them good luck for the future.
