Michael Lüftner loaned to Omonia Nicosia

Czech defender Michael Lüftner will go on loan to Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia for the coming season.

Lüftner joined FC Copenhagen from Slavia Prague in the summer of 2017 and has played 52 games for the club. Since September 2018 he has recovered from a serious injury, and now he needs to play regularly.

"Michael has worked hard and professionally to recover, and now he needs to play as many games as possible to reach 100 per cent," says FCK manager Ståle Solbakken.

"It will be difficult at FCK with the current competition, so this deal is good for all parties. Also Nicosia-manager Henning Berg is a good manager with the same defensive principles as FCK.

"The loan deal makes sense in the short and long term. Michael is still young, and right from the start he was thrown into great challenges. It is positive that he now will get the chance of a new start in a new environment, where we will follow his development.”

Lüftner himself expressed his determination to get back to his best.

”I have been treated very well in FCK during my injury, and now I need to play games to get back and continue my development,” says the defender.

“I still have a lot to learn as a footballer, and this will be a good experience where I pick up a lot of good things.

"I look forward to starting up in Cyprus and playing again after my long injury break.”
