N'Doye strike hands Copenhagen title

Lyngby preview

FC Copenhagen get back into Superliga action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Lyngby BK, where on their previous visit the Lions claimed their third successive Danish championship title. It has been nine league games since the home side took any points away from FCK, a record that stretches back to the start of the last decade.

On 6 August 2000, Lyngby beat Copenhagen 2-1 in PARKEN. Kim Christensen scored both LBK goals. However, this was to be the last time Lyngby have claimed maximum points from Copenhagen, some 11 years ago now.

Overall, Copenhagen and Lyngby have met 42 times, with half of these battles won by FCK. 11 matches have ended up a draw while Lyngby have taken the remaining 10 victories.

It really has been Copenhagen’s good recent spell that has seen them climb up above Lyngby in head to heads. Over the last 12 games (since LBK last won), the Lions have recorded an aggregate score of 32-8. Before August 2000, the aggregate was 47-38. Copenhagen have well and truly taken their revenge for that defeat over a decade ago.

Lyngby BK this season

It has been a frustrating start to Superliga life this season for LBK, who as yet only have one win under their belts. They beat HB Køge 3-1 in the third round of games, and battled out a 1-1 draw with AC Horsens in August. With just seven goals scored compared to 14 conceded from seven games, Lyngby have found themselves stuck to the lower end of the table, and currently sit in 11th place.

To make matters worse for Lyngby, they fell short in the second round of the DBU Cup. LBK travelled to FC Roskilde for the cup tie, and despite the fact that Roskilde had to play 110 minutes of football a man short, they still managed to fight out a 1-1 draw after extra time. In the resulting penalty shootout Roskilde proved their determination to progress with a 3-1 win.

Last season against Lyngby BK

The 2010/11 season featured two home matches and one away game against Lyngby, with all three ending with victory for Copenhagen.

The season's first meeting was on 21 August where Oscar Wendt, Dame N'Doye and César Santin secured Copenhagen a positive 3-0 win in PARKEN.

But whereas the first meeting ended in a clear victory, the same can’t be said for the other two. Kenneth Zohore was on hand to give the Lions the lead in their second clash against LBK. But Lyngby came back; first Kim Aabech equalised before Lasse Rise put the away side ahead just four minutes from time. With all odds certain of an LBK victory, the Lions showed their resolve to fight back. First, Morten Nordstrand levelled the scores with minutes to go, before Sölvi Ottesen popped up at the far post in stoppage time to squeeze home, earning FCK a 3-2 win in one of the most exciting finales of the season.

The third and final showdown began with jubilation, because just before the match at the Lyngby Stadium, news that OB had lost 2-1 to FC Nordsjælland meant Copenhagen were champions before the game had even kicked off.

The game still had to be played however, and Lyngby took the lead after just eight minutes when Peter Madsen scored. But the Lions responded quickly again, and in the 25th minute Christian Bolaños fired in to equalise. FCK continued their dominance, but it was not until four minutes from time that N’Doye popped up with the winning goal to cap off a day of celebration for the Danish champions.

Kick off for Saturday’s game in PARKEN is 3pm CEST. Tickets are still available for the tie, at billetlugen.dk.

The celebrations began after Copenhagen's last match against Lyngby, as a 2-1 win confirmed the club's third successive Danish title.
