Copenhagen sign new right back

Lions sign midfielder Daniel Jensen

FC Copenhagen can announce the short-term signing of midfielder Daniel Jensen, who agreed a contract with the Superliga leaders until the end of the season this week.

Jensen, 33, will be eligible for all of FCK’s spring fixtures this season, plus the Lions’ friendly matches and training camp in Spain over the coming weeks. He is looking forward to representing FCK both on the field and off it after training with us over the past two months to maintain his fitness.

Over this period he has impressed so much that the club thought it viable to offer him a short-term deal until the summer and therefore as of Saturday morning Jensen can call himself an FCK player.

Sporting director Carsten V. Jensen spoke to FCK.dk about the new recruit:

-We already knew that Daniel is a fine player, and he has slipped nicely into everyday life with us. Therefore, we have decided to assign him to the squad in the spring, where he will be able to contribute his experience and winning mentality to a talented squad. And it is by no means inconceivable that the agreement can continue into the long term.

Jensen comes to FC Copenhagen on a free transfer after he was released from his ties with former club Novara, in Italy. Since he left Denmark and first club B93 as an 18-year-old, he has represented Heerenveen, Werder Bremen and Murcia and played 52 matches for the national side. Yet he has never tried his hand in the Superliga before:

- Both my family and I have hoped to finally return home to Denmark and Copenhagen, and there is only one club that really attracts me. I am therefore very pleased that I am now a part of FCK.

- I’m looking forward to playing in the Superliga, and I have a really good impression of FC Copenhagen from the two times I have trained with them here. The club is in many areas at the level of big clubs in Europe, and in the squad there is a good mix of ability to play well together and at the same time be highly professional.

- I can contribute with my experience and the way I play football. I will not attempt anything other than what I can, and as the coaches and management must have assessed that could be used. I am happy just to get started in earnest, and I feel my form will come into place.

Jensen will play his first game for the Lions when they face FC Vestjælland in a friendly on Saturday afternoon (13:00 DK time kick off). It is the squad’s first training match before heading to La Manga for the Copa del Sol on Tuesday.
