Lions into DBU Cup final after win in Brøndby

Nicolai Jørgensen fired FC Copenhagen into the DBU Cup final with a winning goal at Brøndby Stadium last night.

The striker collected the ball on halfway and charged unchallenged to the edge of the BIF box before squeezing in a low effort 12 minutes from time.

Andreas Cornelius, Benjamin Verbic and William Kvist were all denied within the opening 10 minutes of a frantic encounter west of the capital.

At the other end Teemu Pukki blazed over an open goal after rounding FCK stopper Thomas Kaminski.

Jørgensen could have scored his second minutes after the opener but his side-footed effort from Ludwig Augustinsson’s cutback went narrowly wide.

And Kaminski’s sublime late save denied Martin Ørnskov a leveller in stoppage time when the goalkeeper got down to his left to cling on to a low shot.

The 2-1 aggregate result means Copenhagen will play the final in Telia Parken on 6 May against the winner of tonight’s clash between AGF and AaB.

And attention now turns back to the Alka Superliga and an away match with Viborg on Sunday afternoon.
