Lions begin hunt on Superliga leaders

FC Copenhagen narrowed the gap on Superliga leaders FC Midtjylland to eight points with a dominant 3-0 victory in Telia Parken on Sunday.

The Lions went ahead through Jim Larsen’s freak own goal four minutes before half time, before Danny Amankwaa’s rebounded strike doubled their lead on 87 minutes.

And Nicolai Jørgensen wrapped up the points with another rebounded effort in stoppage time to give the FCK fans a warm Superliga send-off on a freezing night in the Danish capital.

Copenhagen now have one game to play before the winter break, a Europa League home tie with Torino on 11 December.

After the game Ståle Solbakken’s players spoke to FCK.dk to discuss the victory and the Superliga title hunt, which begins again in February.

Stephan Andersen

- It was a delightful end to the Superliga year. We got what we came for, what we had talked about before the game - we deserved the victory and the three points. Praise goes to the boys and it’s great to finish with such a performance. Of course it was also wonderful as goalkeeper to get another clean sheet.

Danny Amankwaa

- In the first 25 minutes we lagged a little, but regained control of the game at the end of the half. In the second we were in control and deserved to win 3-0.

Tom Høgli

- It was a hard-won victory. We did not start the game well but quietly got our way back into the game. Overall we deserved to win and this was a nice way end to our Superliga autumn.

Nicolai Jørgensen

- Fantastic! Our first half was OK, but in the second half we were good. We have scored three goals in the match, Danny scores his first Superliga goal and we take a break with positivity. We are ready to start the title hunt again the spring.

Mathias Zanka

- I am very happy and that we won a fully deserved victory! Now the hunt for FC Midtjylland begins.

Mikael Antonsson

- Great! It was important that we got the win and the three points - and good that we have another clean sheet. The victory was a great end to our autumn in the Superliga - and it's great to finish positively.
