Jørgensen: - I'm not 100% fit

Nicolai Jørgensen admits he is still not 100% fit despite coming off the bench to score in FC Copenhagen’s 2-0 win at Viborg yesterday.

The striker, out since March with a hamstring injury, required just 15 minutes to break the deadlock in Jutland before midfielder Thomas Kristensen added a second from the penalty spot.

And Jørgensen, who bagged his seventh goal in 18 league games this season, revealed his disappointment that the Superliga season is about to end.

- I told FCKTV that it would be great if I could score a goal and luckily I did, he revealed to FCK.dk.

- I got the ball and [the Viborg defence] sat back, so I feinted one shot and then just stuck it into the net. I’m not quite physically at my peak, but the more playing time I can get, the better. Unfortunately we break up in two weeks but it’s still great to be back in the team.

FCK had gone close through Rurik Gislason and Igor Vetokele, whose early second-half shot was almost converted by Gislason.

At the other end, Simon Nagel crashed a superb volley off Johan Wiland’s crossbar while Wilton Figueiredo forced a decent low save out of the goalkeeper on the Viborg counter.

Yet Jørgensen proved the difference just nine minutes from time when he picked up a Danny Amankwaa pass on the left edge of the VFF box, tricked his way into a shooting position and prodded the ball past Michal Peskovic.

And before Viborg could form a response, it was 2-0 when 18-year-old Yones Felfel broke free from the home team’s back line, bore down on goal and was upended by Christopher Poulsen just as he pulled to shoot.

Kristensen stepped up to double FCK’s lead with a lashed effort into the roof of the net, and while Wiland was tested late on, Copenhagen held their nerve to secure all three points.

In his post-match interview with FCK.dk, manager Ståle Solbakken confirmed he had taken a risk with Jørgensen, knowing his striker is not back to full fitness.

- It was not really working for us after the break, so we took a little gamble and threw on Nicolai long before it was actually planned. Before the game I had hoped we could field him for the last 10-15 minutes, but we put him in the middle of the half with Daniel Braaten hoping to get an offensive boost.

- Although Nicolai might have only touched the ball two or three times, he did exactly what we had hoped for when he scored the first goal.

The 2-0 result keeps FCK in the Superliga’s third position, five points behind second-place FC Midtjylland with two games remaining. Copenhagen’s next fixture is a trip to Midtjylland on Sunday.
