Igor strike sends Lions into DBU Cup final

FC Copenhagen will play Aalborg in the DBU Cup final after a 1-1 draw at FC Nordsjælland on Thursday earned the Lions a 2-1 aggregate score from the semi-final clash.

Igor Vetokele headed home from a Thomas Delaney flick-on to cancel out Mario Ticinovic's first-half goal and ease the Lions past Nordsjælland.

Pierre Bengtsson and Andreas Cornelius had gone close to equalising for FCK, while Danny Amankwaa hit the side netting in a nervous opening half.

But Vetokele required little time to restore the Lions' advantage after the break with a looping header over goalkeeper David Jensen off Claudemir's deep cross.

- Delaney headed it further to me and I just tried to lob the goalkeeper from where I was, Vetokele told FCKTV after the game.

- We are playing ‘at home’ (in the final) and we just have to try to make the best of it and try to win, because we don’t like to lose. It will be a difficult game against Aalborg. They’re a difficult team to play against and we have to be 100%.

- This can be good for our confidence. We played good football in moments and want to do better.

Thomas Kristensen, Lars Jacobsen and Claudemir all had one-on-one chances blocked by Jensen as FCN pushed forward in search of a winner and the Danish champions held on to book their ninth DBU Cup final place.

In the other semi-final, AaB beat Horsens 5-2 on aggregate. FCK and AaB will meet in PARKEN on 15 May at 19:00 CET.
