Handball: Two teams in the Champions League!

With the women also qualifying, FCK Handball is actually the only club represented in the group stage of both the men’s and the women’s version of the EHF Champions League.

This past weekend the women were given a chance to qualify for the premier group stage of the EHF Champions League as they played host to a qualification tournament, and, after three wins in three days facing tough opposition the Lions of Copenhagen is now deservedly among the top 16 teams in Europe:

FCK Handball - HC Naisa Nis 33-17

FCK Handball – HC Motor Zaporozhye 38-17

FCK Handball – Dunaferr NK 22-15

RK ”Crvena Zvezda” Belgrade – FCK Handball 25-34

As Danish champions, the men qualified directly, of course, and while the women fought for qualification the men actually made their CL debut playing against RK ”Crvena Zvezda” of Belgrade. Proving ready for the challenge, the Copenhagen Lions came charging out and after only eight minutes of play, they were 8-1 ahead. At no point from then on did FCK Handball let the hosts back in the game, which was won by a comfortable nine-goal margin.

While the women will have to wait until the beginning of November to open up their Champions league campaign, the men, already playing, will take on HSV Hamburg as their next opponent this coming Saturday. This Match begins at 16.10 in the Farum Arena.
