FCK put five past Silkeborg

Andreas Cornelius and Nicolai Jørgensen each scored a first-half brace as FC Copenhagen ran out 5-0 victors over Silkeborg IF to remain top of the Superliga table.

FCK welcomed back goalkeeper Johan Wiland from a three-week injury layoff while head coach Ariel Jacobs handed new signing Rurik Gislason his first appearance in a white shirt. Igor Vetokele earned a first start in attack with Andreas Cornelius and Thomas Delaney replaced Thomas Kristensen in midfield.

Gislason looked sprightly from the off and just three minutes in almost stroked home his first goal for the club when he found space on the edge of the SIF box but fired wide of Lasse Heinze’s left post. Copenhagen continued their early pressure and Vetokele hit the underside of the crossbar from a corner on 10 minutes before Heinze turned the ball away.

Seconds later however Copenhagen took the lead when Pierre Bengtsson swung in a short corner for Cornelius to meet in front of his marker, heading in his eighth goal in just 10 appearance for the club.

Cornelius inspires goal rout

Just seven minutes after the goal Cornelius struck again, this time a magnificent effort from the edge of the area. Vetokele spearheaded an attack down the left wing and passed across to Nicolai Jørgensen who, rather than take the ball forward, neatly flicked it back into the path of Cornelius who controlled before bending a shot in off the crossbar.

Before the PARKEN faithful could sit back down Jørgensen made it 3-0 in almost the same fashion as Cornelius’ second. The winger cut in off the flank and curled a marvellous right-footed strike round the outstretched Heinze to send the stadium into frenzy.

The momentum died down after Jørgensen’s strike and while Gislason saw another effort fall narrowly wide of the post FCK could not build any further on their early pressure.

Jørgensen scores a fourth

Maybe the relaxed pace caught SIF unawares because on 33 minutes they surrendered possession to a dogged Vetokele and FCK were back on the attack. The Belgian immediately played Jørgensen forward who, having jinked his way past a defender, confidently slotted home his second goal for 4-0.

The woodwork came to Heinze’s help once again when Cornelius headed onto the bar on 37 minutes, while the goalkeeper made a decent save from Bengtsson’s drilled effort from the left side of the box.

The Lions were warmly applauded off the pitch when referee Peter Rasmussen blew for half time and Jacobs’ men came out with just as much fight after the restart. Seventy seconds into the game substitute Martin Vingaard blazed a golden opportunity over the bar from 12 yards yet the opening of the half was blighted by injury worries for Cornelius and Bengtsson – both players were fit to continue after treatment.

Composed strike for 5-0

Bengtsson came off on the hour mark for Michael Jacobsen before Vingaard again found the FCK fans behind Heinze’s net rather than the target. Silkeborg looked increasingly more assured in possession as the second half continued yet struggled to scare Wiland in the home goal.

The Copenhagen keeper caught Jeppe Illum’s long-range effort with ease on 72 minutes and in the next phase of play Vingaard struck for 5-0. Jacobsen stretched the game down the left wing before cutting inside to Vingaard, who ran square along the edge of the box before curling a considered shot low into the far right corner of the net.

Jacobs took Cornelius off as a precaution with 10 minutes remaining and the game dramatically slowed as FCK let Silkeborg pass the ball without much forward progress. An uneventful three minutes of injury time came and went and Rasmussen brought a clinical 5-0 victory to a close in front of a joyous PARKEN.
