Danish defender joins FCK ranks

FC Copenhagen yesterday secured the signing of 26-year-old Kris Stadsgaard. The Danish defender has joined up with the squad immediately ahead of FCK’s training camp in La Manga at the weekend.

FCK director of sport Carsten V. Jensen said:

- We are pleased that today we can present Kris Stadsgaard as a new player at FC Copenhagen. It's been no secret that we set a goal to bring in a player to the centre of defence in this transfer window. With the addition of Kris we've got the player we ideally wanted. We have followed Kris for a long time and have waited for an opportunity to strike.

Kris Stadsgaard himself was on hand to speak to FCK.dk:

- It's a great day for me. I am very happy that from today I get to play for Scandinavia's largest club. I had other options than to go to FC Copenhagen, but the club has always been my priority. I know there is great competition at FCK, but I am looking to start training with the team and especially to playing in front of the fans in PARKEN.

- In front of us are great challenges in the Superliga and the Cup, and I want to help to win the championship – not least because I, unlike some of my new teammates, have not had the chance to play in the Champions League yet.

Stadsgaard joins FC Copenhagen from Spanish side Malaga CF, where he has played since August 2010. Before moving to Spain, Stadsgaard had great success with Norwegian outfit Rosenborg, and played against FCK in UEFA Champions League qualifying matches. He has also played for Italian side Reggina Calcio and FC Nordsjælland.

Stadsgaard has been capped twice for the Danish national team. His most recent match was against the Czech Republic in November 2010. He will wear the number 4 shirt.
