CV: Two steps from Europe

Over the past five seasons FC Copenhagen been able to showcase European football in PARKEN in the form of participation in group games of either the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Champions League.

by Carsten V. Jensen, Director of Sport

We have always come through the qualifying rounds and the same applies to this year's tournament where the obstacle – before we can attempt a new European adventure – are Irish champions Shamrock Rovers FC. An aggregate victory would mean participation in the Play Off Round of the Champions League, while the minimum will ensure participation in the Europa League group stage and at best qualification for the Champions League group stage. In contrast, a comprehensive defeat to Shamrock Rovers would mean a new round of play offs for qualification to the Europa League group stage.

European football is becoming a big part of our identity, and while we've put our name in Europe, it is also one of the reasons why we as a club can attract and retain talented players. It is a great attraction to offer this opportunity, not just for players and coaches, but also for all our loyal, faithful supporters and sponsors. We have in recent years as a club been very privileged in relation to the unique atmosphere that PARKEN has generated, and the experiences we have had together in these tournaments. Who can forget, for example, fighting against Rosenborg and Barcelona last year? Fantastic memories.

One of the prerequisites for us to have these experiences together again, is that everyone participates and helps to support the team, so we can get the best possible conditions to deliver good results. I have in this context noticed that the Lower B Stand do not consent with the guidelines that apply (and which also applies to everyone else) in PARKEN or where we play our matches.

For my part and on behalf of the team, I make it absolutely clear: there is nothing we want more than great support for the team, which is exactly what the Lower B Stand has contributed to great effect. But violence, threats, vandalism, etc. are simply not compatible with FC Copenhagen and the club’s core values.

Lastly I wish to offer a warm welcome to our guests from Shamrock Rovers, the fans, the referees and the UEFA delegate.
