FCK crowned champions

Cornelius returns to FCK

FC Copenhagen have re-signed the club’s former top scorer, Andreas Cornelius, from Premier League side Cardiff City. Cornelius has agreed a five-year contract with the Lions and transfers with immediate effect.

The club also brought in Norway international midfielder Tom Høgli on transfer deadline day, having agreed a contract with Argentine Franco Mussis earlier in the day.

- Cornelius’ standards are unquestionable and the loss of him this summer noticeably affected our offensive power. Since he departed we have been looking for a replacement but no one can fulfil this role better than Cornelius himself. Therefore, this is a great opportunity to bring him back to PARKEN and we look forward to having him in the forward line, said sporting director Carsten V. Jensen.

- Cornelius knows what it means to be a part of this club and what it takes to win. He understands the ambitions and strategies in place and we know what qualities he has both on and off the field. Therefore, we did not hesitate to invest in him and bring him home from Wales. When he has settled down again, we know he is a player who can make a real positive impact in the club.

Copenhagen sold Cornelius to Cardiff for a record transfer fee last summer, but the striker was unfortunate to suffer an early injury and a change of manager. Now he is returning to the club he left when top scorer in the Superliga and Danish champion, to be part of a new team with big ambitions.

- I didn’t have a second of doubt that this was where I wanted to be, especially with the situation as it was in Cardiff. I have nothing bad to say about the club or anyone connected with it but I need to play football. I do not see it as a backwards step to play for the biggest club in Scandinavia. I feel there are many things I have not achieved with FC Copenhagen and I will definitely fight to be part of what is being built at FCK right now. So now I am looking forward for to training with the guys again and get on with playing football, Cornelius told FCK.dk.

Cornelius will rejoin his teammates for training on Monday and will wear the No.11 shirt in PARKEN. In his debut season with the Lions, he scored 18 Superliga goals in 32 appearances.

The club have also agreed a two-year deal with Norwegian Tom Høgli, who will arrive in the Danish capital once his contract at Club Brugge expires this summer.

- Tom is a solid signing that will increase competition in both out full-back positions. At the same time he is a very experienced and professional player who has several good years ahead of him. We look forward to welcoming him to Parken this summer and to working with him in Copenhagen, said Carsten V. Jensen.

Høgli arrived at Brugge in 2011 and has so far played 68 matches for the Belgian side. Before then, he represented Tromsø and Bodø/Glimt in Norway. The 29-year-old has been capped 38 times for his country and has scored two goals.

- I now have a job to finish in Belgium with Brugge, but there should be no doubt that I am very pleased to come to Scandinavia's largest city and play for its largest club this summer, said Høgli.
