Copenhagen beat FCM in Parken thriller

FC Copenhagen head into Thursday’s DBU Cup final in high spirits after scoring five past FC Midtjylland in the Alka Superliga.

The Lions took an early two-goal lead when Thomas Delaney headed in unmarked at the near post after five minutes, before Federico Santander also nodded past goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen.

Midtjylland striker Martin Pusic struck back for the visitors on 51 minutes, only for Benjamin Verbic to head straight down the other end and make it 3-1 to the Lions.

FCM would not lie down, however, and Jakob Poulsen clipped home a beautiful free-kick on the hour mark - but Nicolai Jørgensen restored the two-goal advantage from the penalty spot 17 minutes later after Youssef Toutouh had been upended.

Poulsen again got on the scoresheet with another blistering free-kick before Jørgensen hit back one final time when firing home at the back post from a corner.

The result means Copenhagen have a seven-point cushion on SønderjyskE at the top of the league with six games of the season remaining.

Focus now turns to Thursday’s DBU Cup final with AGF in Telia Parken, where FCK will hope to defend their crown.
