Strikers seal New Firm victory

Copenhagen agree Igor Vetokele sale

FC Copenhagen have reached an agreement with English Championship club Charlton Athletic to sell striker Igor Vetokele.

The 22-year-old Angola international joins the club with immediate effect, subject to passing his medical and agreeing personal terms with Charlton.

FCK manager Ståle Solbakken spoke to FCK.dk about his decision to sell the striker.

- Igor has had a fine season, even though it was his first year with regular playing time at this level. He's been through a strong development with us at FC Copenhagen. But in such a situation, it's always about evaluating the player we have with the deal we can get.

- Right now, we know that we will get a new striker in Steve De Ridder and we are not sure that Igor Vetokele and Andreas Cornelius as a pair will be the best duo in the long term. Therefore, we think it sensible was to agree to the offer and give Igor the opportunity to experience his dream in England at Charlton.

Igor Vetokele joined FC Copenhagen two years ago from Cercle Bruges and said he enjoyed his time with the ten-time Danish champions - not least playing in PARKEN.

- First of all, I would like to thank everyone at FC Copenhagen because they have given me the chance to become a better player and experience Europa League and UEFA Champions League football.

- I am very grateful to have played for FCK's fans and experienced support in all the matches I've played. I want to wish them all the best for the future, for they deserve it and I have enjoyed my time with them at the club and in Copenhagen in general.

- But I've always wanted to try playing in England and I believe I have good opportunities to play and continue my development at Charlton. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for me, even though it is not an easy decision.

Igor Vetokele made 54 appearances for FCK and scored 19 goals in a Lions shirt.

FCK have also parted company with Mustafa Abdellaoue, who moves to Norwegian side Aalesunds FK.

The 25-year-old joined Copenhagen from Tromso in early 2012 and played 19 games for the club, scoring five goals.

FC Copenhagen would like to wish 'Mos' all the best for the future.
