3-1 loss to Manchester City

F.C. Copenhagen arrived in Manchester with more than 2,400 supporters in the away end but the Lions couldn't get the result needed to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit in the UEFA Champions League last-16.

Manchester City put five past the Lions when these sides met in the group stage of the 2023/24 Champions League. They were two goals up within nine minutes through Manuel Ajanji and Julián Alvarez.

However, FCK weren't going to lie down and pulled one back midway through the first half after a rapid one-two between Mohamed Elyounoussi and Orri Óskarsson ended in the Norway playmaker finding the net.

There were chances to draw level before the break but sadly it was City who found the net moments before the whistle blew. This time is was Erling Haaland who fired home a deflected effort.

FCK battled hard in the second half to find a way back into the tie. Magnus Mattsson found himself one-on-one with Ederson but could only find the goalkeeper, while Elyounoussi could only find the stands after finding space on the edge of the area.

At the other end Rico Lewis hit the woodwork for City to bring some excitement to the home terraces, but much of the atmosphere came from the travelling supporters.

Defeat brings FCK's European adventure to a close for this season. It began back in July with a 2-0 victory at Breidablik, and has encompassed a penalty shootout against Sparta Prague, a last-minute penalty miss at Old Trafford, a 4-3 victory over Manchester United, and December's dramatic triumph over Galatasaray.

Back to the Superliga
Focus now swings back to the Danish Superliga title race. Tickets are still available for Sunday's clash with Lyngby in Parken, before the regular season comes to an end a week later at OB. After that the league splits in two, with FCK due to play 10 more fixtures in the battle for the championship.
