Gunnar Orri Olsen extends F.C. Copenhagen contract
Icelandic teenager Gunnar Orri Olsen has signed a long-term contract with F.C. Copenhagen – a testament to his positive development since his arrival in Copenhagen in the summer of 2024.
Speaking of Olsen's extended agreement, FCK development director Morten Grahn says: "Contract extensions are always extremely gratifying, because they're a mutual expression from both parties that development and performance are going in the right direction.
Morten Grahn: FCK have a large talent pool
"Gunnar has shown a great ability to take our environment and requirements and use it to improve himself. We have a strong and competitive U19 environment that pushes our players every day. At the same time, the matches in the Youth League also help to advance our players.
"The extension with Gunnar is - exactly as we saw with Viktor Dadason - good proof that we at FCK have a large talent pool, with more on the way.
“We can see how the FCK model can develop players from the very early youth years, but also, as in Gunnar's case, quickly integrate new and exciting international players."
Gunnar Orri Olsen: No plans for it to stop here
Olsen, 17, joined the club last summer from UMF Stjarnan, and he is delighted with the warm welcome and good start he has received at F.C. Copenhagen.
”I am really happy with how it's gone so far at the club," he says.
“We have many talented people around us who work to make us better all the time. I have made good friends in the team, and we help each other every day.
”I am proud to have come to a new agreement already, and it is of course a sign that things are going in the right direction. I have no plans for it to stop here. I dream of making my first-team debut in Parken, just like I have seen my other compatriots before me."
Mikkel Køhler: Big steps in a short time
FCK's head of recruitment Mikkel Køhler is happy that the things that the club saw in Gunnar when they brought him over from Iceland have since developed in Copenhagen.
“First of all, it's a big compliment to Gunni, because he has really worked hard for this, and he has taken big steps in a relatively short time at our club," says Mikkel.
“Gunnar is an attacking midfielder who can play several different positions. He has good speed and can drive the ball over really long distances, and at the same time he has goals and assists in his game. That makes him a player who can decide matches, and he has also shown that in his first period in Copenhagen.
“Now the next period awaits, when he will move further towards senior football. He must become more stable in his performances and ensure that he is decisive in several periods of the matches, to be a player we look more at."
