Svensson praises 'stable' performance in 3-0 win at Debreceni VSC

Bo Svensson hopes Thursday's 3-0 UEFA Conference League qualifying win at Debreceni VSC is the start of something special at F.C. Copenhagen as the Lions took a step towards the playoff round.

Goals from Gabriel Pereira, Robert and Andreas Cornelius not only secured a healthy first-leg lead ahead of next week's return fixture, but it was also the team's first clean sheet of the 2026/27 season.

Reflecting on the performance and the display, the Lions head coach Svensson said afterwards: "Apart from the first 15 minutes and maybe also the first 20 minutes of the second half, I think we were in full control, even though we didn't always have the ball that much.

"They didn't get anything, and we scored three good goals ourselves and had a few more chances, so I think it looked pretty stable.

"We took care of ourselves a little bit at the beginning, but we needed to, because we had studied our opponents and saw where we needed to take care. So we didn't give away too much space and left some of the initiative to them, but I don't really think they could find any solutions. We had some good transitions and looked stable against the ball.

"I'm also happy that we were finally able to keep a clean sheet, and let's hope that it becomes a bigger trend, because against the ball we still have something to work on. There are phases where we waste the ball, so there's still a lot of clean-up work to do."

Gunnar Orri Olsen made his official F.C. Copenhagen debut when he entered the field at the very end, after Marvin Nasnas had also come on: "We want to invest in young players, and we believe in Gunnar, just like Marvin, so it was natural that they came on tonight," added Svensson.

The squad flies home tonight and has the weekend off before we welcome Debreceni VSC to Parken on Wednesday at 6pm.
