F.C. Copenhagen sign Junnosuke Suzuki

F.C. Copenhagen have reached an agreement with Japanese club Shonan Bellmare to sign Junnosuke Suzuki.

The 21-year-old defender has been a regular in the J1 League this season and has also made his debut for the Japanese A-team. He has signed a contract with FCK until the summer of 2030.

Sune: Great development potential
Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen says: "Suzuki is an exciting, young player who we have been scouting for a long time.

"He has great development potential and fits perfectly into our strategy of signing young, development-ready players who also have the level to make an impact in the first team and help win trophies for F.C. Copenhagen.

"The Japanese market has developed significantly in recent years, and Suzuki has already shown that he can perform stably in a strong league - and now also at national team level.

“We look forward to welcoming him and contributing to the next step in his development, where he can lean on our other talented defenders."

Suzuki: Great opportunity to join F.C. Copenhagen
Suzuki is looking forward to starting a new chapter of his career in the Danish capital.

“It is a great opportunity for me to join F.C. Copenhagen and develop myself in a very competitive environment," he says.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play in Europe, and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates, learning from the coaching staff and giving everything for the club and the city."

Neestrup: Suzuki is a flexible defender
Head coach Jacob Neestrup is also looking forward to welcoming Suzuki to the club.

"Suzuki is a flexible defender with great running ability, strong defensive qualities and good speed," says the boss. "He is aggressive in the tackle, reads the game well and is comfortable on the ball - qualities that make him useful both as a full-back and in a three-man defence.

"He will of course need time to adjust to a new environment and a different pace, but we see some very clear qualities in him that we believe can be valuable for us, both now and in the long term."

Suzuki will not train with the team in the coming period, as he suffered a minor injury in his last match in Japan. He will wear the number 20 shirt.
