Larsson ready for 131st Copenhagen derby
Jordan Larsson says he's ready to help FCK secure three points at Brøndby in today's derby after scoring the match winner at Viborg in the Danish Cup on Thursday.
Larsson's goal puts FCK 1-0 up heading into next week's second leg – but attention now flips back to the league and a showdown with BIF.
Victory for FCK could open up a four-point lead at the top of the table, although Brøndby are also pushing for top spot alongside FC Midtjylland.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” says Larsson. "I haven’t lost a game there (in Brøndby Stadium) yet, so let’s keep it going! I also scored there two years ago in a difficult and important game, where we were short of several players, but won 3-1.
“It will be difficult again, but we also have something to avenge after the derby in Parken and will of course do everything we can to bring home a victory."
Jarsson used to play for Spartak Moscow, meaning he engaged in a few derbies with CSKA during his time in Russia. But his experience of big rivalries isn't restricted to Moscow and Copenhagen.
“Yes, Spartak-CSKA was the biggest in Russia, and later the Zenit matches were also big games when we fought for first place," says Larsson. "I’ve also played Schalke-Dortmund and that was also great to experience. It’s huge in Germany and historically also the biggest rivalry.
“In AIK I also played Stockholm derbies against Djurgården and Hammarby, and I have also played the Skåne derby between Helsingborg and Malmö, so I have experienced a few.”
Larsson, of course, also remembers the Old Firm games from his childhood in Glasgow, where he grew up, while his father - Henrik Larsson - played for Celtic from 1997-2004.
Here in Denmark there's no bigger game than a meeting between F.C. Copenhagen and Brøndby IF, and now all focus is on the 131st edition of this derby.
“Hopefully we can build on the momentum we have right now and the confidence we have gained after three wins in a row, so that we can once again go and deliver a good match in Brøndby,” adds Larsson.
"As I've always said when I get the question, it doesn't matter whether I play as a striker or a winger, as long as I play. Throughout my career, I've played most games as one of two strikers, but I adapt as best I can to the role that Jacob Neestrup chooses to give me."
Brøndby vs FCK kicks off at 4pm on Sunday. FCK and Carlsberg are hosting "Carlsberg Away Days" in Parken, where fans can watch the game on the big screen from entrances A2/A3 and A9/A10, starting at 3pm.
