Jubel efter scoring

Thorup: AaB win of extra importance

F.C. Copenhagen head coach Jess Thorup said the season-opening defeat to Horsens last week meant Sunday's 3-1 victory over Aalborg was of extra significance to the Lions.

Two goals from Viktor Claesson and an Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson strike in stoppage time earned FCK victory.

Thorup said: "I was definitely not satisfied with our first half hour, but towards the break we got better and better and finished well.

"Of course, there's a psychological boost in the fact that we scored just before the half-time whistle, but that did not change the fact that we adjusted some things for the second half.

"I showed the players some video clips that were about our pressing game, among other things, and then we switched around, so that Claesson came in as an 8 and Hákon Haraldsson went out on the wing.

"We came out for the second half with great confidence and belief, and set ourselves up for the game. There was only a short period after their goal when it was perhaps a little nervy, when they went for broke.

"But we also handled that without AaB getting any great chances, and instead we had several opportunities to close the game, before Isak stuck it in at the end.

"The win was of course extra important after we lost last Sunday, but we still have to build, because our game is still not where we would like over 90 minutes.

"We must develop and still win, and therefore I am very satisfied with what we achieved here in Aalborg, which points towards us doing further work."

Next up for FCK is Sunday's trip to Viborg in the third weekend of the 2022/23 Danish Superliga season.
