Svensson reacts to derby win after three games in six days
F.C. Copenhagen head coach Bo Svensson expressed his immense pride at the players' performance in Sunday’s 1-0 derby victory over Brøndby, coming as it did off a grueling week that featured three matches in just six days.
"We put in a strong performance, not allowing Brøndby to create anything - save for a couple of attempts toward the very end,” he said after the game, which was settled by William Clem’s second-half strike.
“We controlled most of the match, though I would have liked us to create a bit more during our strong spell in the opening half-hour.
"We were pushed back a little before the break, but they still didn't manage to create any real chances. In matches like these, scoring the opening goal is crucial.”
With a slight smile, Svensson added: “Clem’s goal speaks for itself - and, of course, it was a rehearsed corner-kick routine.”
The build-up to Clem’s goal featured an unsuccessful corner from Elyounoussi that fell straight to BIF’s Filip Bundgaard. Neither he nor Olti Hyseni managed to clear the ball, allowing Clem to step in and hammer it into the far corner.
"And with his left foot, too - I certainly didn't see that coming!" admitted Svensson, who substituted both the goalscorer and Robert after about an hour.
"Robert has just returned from injury and didn't have as much energy as he did before the break. I also noticed that Clem was starting to tire, so we decided to bring on Delaney and Král.
“They are both experienced players who helped stabilise the team while we were holding a 1-0 lead.
"The final minutes were a bit tense, as they threw everything forward - even pushing Binks up into the attack - and anything can happen in those situations. But I thought we dealt with them quite convincingly.
“Especially after this week, with three matches in six days, I am proud of the team and very pleased with the performance we delivered today. It was a complete, well-rounded effort - above all, a true team performance. That said, I want to highlight our back line, and Asger in particular, who I thought played an incredibly good match.
"But I could mention many others, and the atmosphere surrounding the match was fantastic, too - so huge credit to the fans for their support. It’s great to play in matches like this, with fans at both ends helping to set the mood.”
