School kids leave stadium for summer holidays

School kids who have been using F.C. Copenhagen's Telia Parken as a classroom for the last few weeks have now left to enjoy the summer holidays.

FCK opened the doors of the national stadium to around 200 children from Øster Farimagsgade School, who needed the extra space because of the infection risk of coronavirus.

This week the bell rang for the last time as the summer holidays began. When students meet again on 10 August they will do so at their school on Øster Farimgagsgade.

A school of adventure for the students
"It has been a school of adventure for our pupils in grades four and five, and for the sixth grade, which came directly from home after the school closed for six weeks," says Axel Bech, school inspector at Øster Farimagsgade's School.

"The students have heard, seen and experienced the professional life of football players and the ground staff, they have seen the players' locker rooms, and they have even met William Kvist.

"So we offer a big thank you to everyone who helped, so that we could be here instead of at home.

"It is Lars Mercebach and Kim Stevnsborg in particular who got it all running, but also a huge thank you to the Centre Manager at BUF, Mette Kilde Corfitzen, who has provided all the practicalities regarding equipment and relocation etc.

"And finally a thank you to Lars Bo Jeppesen, who after only nine days on the post as new director of FCK welcomed us in Parken on Monday, 11 May."

We enjoyed visiting
As mentioned, Lars Mercebach, Chief Operational Manager, and Kim Stevnsborg, Operation Manager, have been particularly involved in creating the framework for the school's visit.

"It's great that we have been able to help some of the city's children when we have not been able to use the premises in advance," says Lars.

"First and foremost for the sake of the school and students, but we also enjoyed having a little life in the ground during these quiet periods.

"We are pleased to hear that teachers and pupils have enjoyed their time here, because of course it has not been the same as going to school in the usual environment. Instead, there's been a lot of football, sports and cultural history."
