Nicolai Boilesen signs FCK contract extension

Nicolai Boilesen has renewed his contract with FC Copenhagen until the summer of 2023. His previous contract had run until the summer of 2020.

Boilesen, 26, joined FC Copenhagen in the summer of 2016 after a stint at Ajax.

The full-back has made 19 Superliga and Europa League appearances this season, scoring in the 4-2 win over Aarhus in October.

He boasts 82 appearances with the Lions and manager Ståle Solbakken is delighted to have secured his long-term future.

"When Nicolai came to Copenhagen, we had a task of physically building him and making him a player who can play many high-level matches every season," Ståle said.

"We got this task together, and in recent seasons he has been a very stable and strong player for us.

"He has some qualities that other FCK defender have, with his strong technique, reading of the game and good delivery skills.

"He is incredibly strong on the ball and a good forward player for us. At the same time he has improved defensively and we are very happy to have him on the team moving forwards."

Boilesen says he looks forward to contributing more to FCK in the future.

"It is a very good solution for me that we have agreed to extend the agreement. I'm incredibly happy to be at the club and have built myself up playing here again," he said.

"When I arrived in Copenhagen, I said that I did not see FCK as a step down to playing in a foreign club, and I have had that confirmed over the years. We play at an international level and the ambitions are big at this club.

"I have already helped to win titles here, but my role has grown since then and I would like to make sure we can win even more trophies and experience new European adventures. I really look forward to it.

"It motivates me a lot to be part of a team that really has an interesting perspective."

The extension with Boilesen comes after Rasmus Falk lengthened his contract on Tuesday.

Ståle added: "Nicolai and Rasmus are two important players for us. They primarily contribute to their qualities as football players, but also outside the pitch they are important to us because they are both very ambitious," said Ståle.

"It is good for us that we are settled in their future, and so we will work with them to further develop them as leaders around the team."
