New assistant coach joins Copenhagen

FC Copenhagen have added a new coach to the backroom staff in Swede Peter Wettergren.

Peter arrives from Elfsborg and will start his new role as assistant coach at the start of next season after agreeing a three-year contract.

And manager Ståle Solbakken said he was delighted to have the 47-year-old on board.

- Peter possesses the core values in precisely the role we have for him. He has a strong analytical mind, he is adept at coaching individuals but also always has the team in mind, Ståle explained.

- Moreover, he arrives with firm experience from the Swedish league and international experience from European matches with Elfsborg and his role in the Swedish national team.

- We have for some time been looking for an addition to our sporting setup, which we have now found in Peter.

Over the past decade Peter has been an assistant coach at Elfsborg and assistant coach and scout for the Swedish A-team.

- For me, FC Copenhagen the biggest club in Scandinavia. All players and coaches dream of being allowed to work for such a big club, Peter said.

- I am very grateful that I can now get going on the job. I already know parts of the club through the Swedish players I have worked with in the national team and through my connection with Ståle.

- I have a tremendous positive impression of it all.

- It will be great to work in Copenhagen, where I can help with mentality training, and I love being on the field and developing both individuals and the team. I very much look forward to getting started.

While Peter steps into the role as assistant coach of the Lions, Brian Riemer is handed a new role as U19 coach and liaison between the School of Excellence and the squad.

It also means the current U19 coach, Morten Grahn, will strengthen the younger generations in the School of Excellence from U13 to U15.

- We are very pleased that we can really strengthen our link to the School of Excellence in this reshuffle. It will make our talent better and make the transition from the School of Excellence to the Alka Superliga even better, Ståle added.
