Neestrup reacts to 2-0 win over Schalke

F.C. Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup admits he was satisfied with the first 45 minutes of the Lions' 2-0 friendly win over Schalke 04 on Tuesday, but knows there is still room for improvement.

Goals from Diogo Gonçalves and Roony Bardghji secured the victory for FCK in Austria.

And Neestrup says the game served as a great lesson for the players as they continue to prepare for the start of the Danish Superliga season.

"We delivered a really good first-half performance where I think we handled their man-to-man pressure really well," says Neestrup.

"We were very strong in the middle of the pitch and scored two great goals, and at the same time we kept them away from chances and almost completely from our third.

"It's really nice to see that our work on the training ground helped in the build-up to the first goal, and when Roony scored his free-kick, which he has practiced many times.

"I'm a bit sorry about the second half, because we could have had a really good friendly, but that's how it is sometimes in these games. But we'll take the many great things from the first half with us, and we'll look at what we need to improve from the second half.

"It's good for our development to face a team that almost goes man-to-man all over the pitch, because we have never played against that before. But we may face that system again one day, so we can take something from the game.

"All in all, it was a fine effort where we still have a week and a half left of our preparations. As I said, there were a lot of good moments in the first 45 minutes."
