Meling double as Lions beat Randers 4-0

Birger Meling scored two goals in the opening 14 minutes to send F.C. Copenhagen on course to a 4-0 win at Randers on Sunday – and maintain the Lions' 100% start to the Danish Superliga season.

Meling opened the scoring with a smart first-time finish just 66 seconds into the game, before popping up with a similar effort to put the Lions into a commanding position.

Mads Emil Madsen woven his way into a shooting position moments before half time before rocketing a shot into the net to make it 3-0.

And Marcos López added gloss on the performance with a low drive midway through the second half to wrap up the win.

After the game head coach Bo Svensson said: "I think we delivered a thoroughly professional effort today, where we of course also got off to a good start with Birger's quick goal.

"It was a well-executed match, where we were in control in many phases of the game, and we again created many chances and scored some great goals.

"We have also done that in previous matches, even when the performance itself has lagged, and especially in the first matches against Polissya and Lyngby, where we gave away an incredible number of chances to the opponent.

"Now we are going through a good development defensively, and in our last matches we have become more settled and more stable.

"We have consistently delivered results, and it is also a quality to be able to fight through difficult situations, and we must also be able to continue to do so, while we continue to push forward in the phases where we can and must become even better."

The three-goal lead at half time meant that Svensson and the coaching team were able to carry out a few planned substitutions, although goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski could not continue due to problems with his knee.

"We have no report on what is wrong, but it is never a good sign when a player is injured in a solo accident where there has been no contact with an opponent. But the closer investigations will show that, and we of course hope for the best for Dominik," said Svensson.
