Handball: Ladies in the final 16 of the Cup Winners' Cup

Playing away against Buducnost of Montenegro in the last game of the EHF Champions League Group B, FCK Handball needed a win in order to qualify for the main phase of the competition. Although the teams played an even match, at the very end, FCK Handball lost the momentum to Buducnost who came out on top with a 25-22 win. The women’s European campaign does continue, however. Finishing third in the group just moves FCK Handball to the last 16 of the Cup Winner’s Cup instead.

In the first half, the lead went back and forth between the two teams with Milanovic leading the way for FCK Handball. At half-time FCK Handball only trailed by a single goal (12-11) but immediately after the break, Buducnost began to pull away. Quickly they had built a three-goal lead but the Copenhagen side kept its focus and midway through the second half they were back on even (18-18). However, as Buducnost pulled away again towards the end, the FCK Handball side just could not muster the strength to fight themselves back a second time.

As they now enter the Cup Winner’s Cup, the women of FCK Handball are already set to meet DHK Zora Olomouc of the Czech Republic. Both games of this two-leg tie will played in the beginning of February, however, the exact dates and times have yet to be determined.

Incidentally, the male team of FCK Handball – still competing in the Champions League – will also pick up their European commitment around the same time. For their first encounter in the main round, they will face the Russian champions of Chehovski Medvedi at home in the Farum Arena at 16.10 Feb 14.
