FCK to face Esbjerg after DBU Cup quarters drama

FC Copenhagen beat Randers 5-4 on penalties to secure safe passage to the DBU Cup semifinals - where they will face Esbjerg.

The Lions battled out a goalless draw over 120 minutes before goalkeeper Stephan Andersen proved the hero on spot kicks.

Steve de Ridder, Andreas Cornelius and Yourself Toutouh all went close for Copenhagen in normal time, while Danny Amartey blazed over the crossbar, but they couldn’t find a way past Karl-Johan Johnsson.

At the other end Andersen smothered an early Randers effort before blocking Kasper Fisker’s glanced header.

Thirty minutes of extra time couldn’t split the sides and further drama arrived in the shootout when Toutouh fired over with the scores locked at 4-4.

But Christian Keller’s response hit the crossbar, forcing another penalty each. Amartey scored his and Andersen saved off Mads Agesen to edge the Lions through to the semifinals.
