F.C. Copenhagen sign Marcos Lopez on permanent deal

F.C. Copenhagen have agreed to sign Marcos Lopez on a permanent deal after last season's successful loan from Feyenoord.

The 25-year-old has signed a contract in the Danish capital until the summer of 2029.

Lopez played 30 games for FCK last season, helping the Lions secure a league and cup double, while also providing seven assists.

Lopez: ‘Something special’ about Parken
“I am happy to continue at Copenhagen. I have really appreciated my first season at the club, and I am very motivated to build on both my own development and the team’s development," says the Peruvian.

"We have a good group of players who push each other every day in training, and I feel that we saw something of what we can do as a team in the latter part of last season.

“I love that we have to win the championship every year. It’s a pressure I like and a motivating factor when playing at Copenhagen. At the same time, there is something special about going on the pitch in Parken in front of so many spectators every single time. You have to appreciate that a lot as a footballer."

Sune: Lopez is ‘hungry to achieve more’
F.C. Copenhagen’s sporting director, Sune Smith-Nielsen, is delighted to have Lopez in the team for the foreseeable future.

“It has been important for us to ensure continued strong competition in the left-back position, and Marcos showed proved himself last season. He has fit naturally into the squad, and he has been prepared to continue his development in Copenhagen,” says Sune.

“He is a player who is hungry to achieve more at our club and who is ready to contribute very positively to the group of players. Marcos complements our team well, and we are delighted that the agreement has been reached, as it also creates continuity in the position.”

Neestrup: ‘A very professional player’
Lopez played for two seasons at Feyenoord before joining FCK, and enjoyed three campaigns at San Jose in MLS before that.

Head coach Jacob Neestrup adds: "Marcos has, after a difficult start due to the large number of substitutions last summer, shown his high quality. Especially in the Championship Round when he was an important factor of our success.

"He has developed his offensive game with several great assists, which were crucial in several matches. That was also a goal for himself when he arrived last summer.

“Marcos is a very professional player who fits well into our group, and we are now well covered with both Marcos and Birger Meling.”

Lopez will continue in shirt number 15 in the coming season.
