Goalkeeper Jessica Williams joins F.C. Copenhagen

F.C. Copenhagen Women are delighted to reveal the signing of 26-year-old South African goalkeeper Jessica Williams.

Williams most recently represented the University of Cape Town in the SAFA Women's League — the highest division in South Africa. 

After representing South Africa at U20 level, she was part of the national team for the 2019 World Cup, but only really made her mark on the national team at COSAFA 2024.

South Africa went all the way to the final that year. While they lost on penalties to Zambia, Williams received the Golden Glove award as the tournament's best keeper. Along the way, she even scored a goal directly from a free kick from around the halfway line, as South Africa beat Eswatini 3-0.

Williams moved to the University of Cape Town last year after representing Badgers FC, and this year she has also worked as a coach at the Badgers Academy, which was founded by our Women's Head of Football Romaney Pinnock.

Pinnock therefore has a particularly good knowledge of Williams, who also trained for a period with Bristol City while Romaney was at the club.

"Jess grew up playing with the boys in one of Cape Town's roughest areas. Her persistence and drive has made her the player and person she is today,” says Pinnock.

“Not only will Jess bring her strong work ethic and experience to our group of FCK goalkeepers, she will also be inspiring many girls at home to stick to their dreams."

Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen would like to welcome Jess to the club, where she will wear jersey number 31.

Jess and our other new signing, Sarah Jankovska, will be welcomed by F.C. Copenhagen Fan Club before Saturday's home game at 1pm against ASA, Aarhus.
