Thomas Delaney forlænger kontrakten med F.C. København til 2027

Thomas Delaney extends F.C. Copenhagen contract

F.C. Copenhagen are delighted to confirm Thomas Delaney has extended his contract at the club until the summer of 2027.

Delaney became a member of F.C. Copenhagen's fan club when he was just two years old, and the club icon's journey towards F.C. Copenhagen's first team began a year later when he started playing football at KB.

He made his debut for the Lions as a 17-year-old in April 2009 in a Danish Cup match against Nordvest FC, and to date he has made 315 appearances and scored 30 goals for F.C. Copenhagen.

Since his debut, the midfielder has become one of the most significant players in the club's history, winning trophies and appearing in significant matches along the way.

Now there will be even more to come, and Delaney – with his experience and winning mentality – is happy to continue in the white shirt.

"I am really happy that we have agreed to extend for another year, because I obviously cannot see myself playing for any other club. F.C. Copenhagen is my club - this is where I belong, and I still have plenty to give," says Delaney.

"I almost can't wait to get started on next season! We need to get back to the top where we belong, but first and foremost, right now there is full focus on finishing this season by qualifying for Europe."

The foundation for the future
Delaney may have celebrated his 34th birthday at the start of the season but he still sees himself playing a significant role in the coming campaign – both on and off the pitch.

"I am aware that age is not exactly to my advantage, and I know that my body won't allow me to play every match," he says. "But I also want to contribute on multiple levels – and not exclusively with minutes on the pitch.

"I dream of being part of creating and building the foundation for the future and the next great era for F.C. Copenhagen.

"I hope to see younger, more talented players come in, and I want to help them on their way. But I will not back down from a single tackle, neither in training nor in matches, because I will fight for my place every day."

A unique cultural bearer
Head coach Bo Svensson says he is looking forward to continuing to have Delaney's leadership qualities at his disposal next season.

"Thomas is a unique cultural bearer at F.C. Copenhagen, and an important connection for the future," says Svensson.

"He continues to maintain a high level in training and in matches, and at the same time, he is a player who can manage a team both on and off the pitch. I am really happy to have him in the squad for the coming season."

F.C. Copenhagen's technical director, Nils Koppen adds: "Both parties have been eager to extend the agreement, because Thomas still has a lot to give, and his contribution means a lot to the team and the club.

"He is still hungry, he delivers, and he pushes his teammates every single day, and that is absolutely crucial for the cohesion within the squad.

"Thomas is a fantastic mentor, and it is a role he takes very seriously. It says a lot about the class he possesses, that he is willing to strengthen and help his own 'competitors', who at some point will take his place in the team and be part of lifting F.C. Copenhagen into the future.”
