F.C. Copenhagen and Jacob Neestrup mutually agree departure
F.C. Copenhagen can confirm head coach Jacob Neestrup and assistant coach Stefan Madsen have agreed to end their time at the club as of today.
Neestrup leaves F.C. Copenhagen together with assistant coach Madsen, with the decision having been made jointly based on an overall sporting assessment.
The parties have agreed to go their separate ways in the interest of the future sporting development of F.C. Copenhagen.
“We have had a good and honest dialogue about the situation, and we completely agree on the conclusion, that we have reached the end of the road in this cooperation, and F.C. Copenhagen require a new head coach,” says chairman of PARKEN Sport & Entertainment, Henrik Møgelmose.
“We are playing for European qualification and are overall eighth in the Superliga, just six points from a relegation place. It goes without saying that we must never be in such a position.”
Despite the current situation in the Superliga, Neestrup has led F.C. Copenhagen during the most successful period for a Danish club ever. In four years, it has resulted in three Danish championships, two cup wins and three UEFA Champions League campaigns — including reaching the knockouts.
“It is not just anyone we are saying goodbye to today, and it is a difficult decision to part ways - even if it is the right one. It's not goodbye, we'll see you again,” adds Henrik Møgelmose.
“‘Neestrup is one of our own, and he has left a huge mark on F.C. Copenhagen. We are all very grateful for his great commitment and dedication to the club.”
F.C. Copenhagen will soon present the club’s new head coach, while Neestrup will attend a home match in the near future, where he will receive his well-deserved tribute from Parken and F.C. Copenhagen.
Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen thanks Jacob Neestrup and Stefan Madsen and wishes both all the best for the future.
