F.C. Copenhagen sign Kenay Myrie
F.C. Copenhagen are delighted to announce the signing of Kenay Myrie from Deportivo Saprissa.
Myrie, 19, joins the Lions this winter after making his debut for Costa Rica back in June.
The full-back came through Deportivo Saprissa's academy and has also spent a few years in Belgium, when his father played for Gent between 2008 to 2012.
Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen spoke highly of the deal, saying: "We have followed Kenay for a long time, where we have been able to see his potential. At the same time we have watched a player who has performed positively at senior level.
"We are getting a young and exciting player who, in the long run, will become a core player in the Superliga and for F.C. Copenhagen.
"Kenay possesses some obvious offensive qualities in the form of his speed and strength. He has a strong physical package and a mature personality despite his young age.
“There will be an adjustment period in Copenhagen in terms of playing style and culture, but we are very much looking forward to helping Kenay meet that challenge and thus securing a player who will help F.C. Copenhagen in the future."
Myrie himself said of moving to Copenhagen: “I am very much looking forward to it, and it is no secret that this is a very big step, and it is fantastic to be here.
“Since I was a little boy, I have dreamed of becoming a footballer in Europe, and to have the opportunity to represent F.C. Copenhagen is very big for me.
“I know that there is a lot of work ahead of me, because I will now have to adapt to a completely different culture and at the same time a new playing style.
"But I have only read, heard and seen a lot of positive things about the club and Copenhagen, and I have received good recommendations from Christian Bolaños.
"It will be exciting and I am looking forward to taking my next steps at F.C. Copenhagen. I am ready to give everything I have, but I am also patient and know that it will take some time to get used to it all - I am very much looking forward to it."
Myrie has signed a long-term deal and will wear the number 18 shirt.
