Svensson season-opening 3-2 win over Lyngby

Birger Meling scored twice and Mohamed Elyounoussi bagged a wonder goal as F.C. Copenhagen kicked off the 2026/27 Danish Superliga with a 3-2 comeback win over Lyngby BK.

Melling scored either side of half time – popping up from the right flank to finish on both occasions – while Elyounoussi toyed with the Lyngby defence before rifling home the winner in front of almost 23,000 fans in Parken.

But head coach Bo Svensson admits he was far from satisfied with the performance, even though the Lions got the three points.

"If we start with the positives, we have had two good results from our opening games (inc. the 3-3 draw with FC Polissya), and we scored some great goals today and won after being behind," said Svensson.

"On paper it's a good start, but the first half we delivered today was very far from the level we want, and it was the same on Thursday. We simply cannot produce two first halves like that, and I thought we had learned our lesson after the Polissya game. This is not at all what I associate with F.C. Copenhagen.

"It was the very basic things that were not right, as if we just expected things to come to us automatically. We didn't have the necessary defensive mindset, we seemed disjointed, and we generally lagged behind in many areas and created big problems for ourselves again.

"It got better after the break, but we simply have to perform much better on Wednesday against Polissya (in the second leg), otherwise we risk being eliminated from the tournament (UEFA Conference League) after just one round."
