Svensson praises entire squad in 4-1 win at Vejle
Three goals in the final throes of the game earned F.C. Copenhagen a 4-1 win in driving rain at Vejle, as Geovanni Ndjee marked his step up to the first team with a double from the bench.
The scores were level heading into the last 10 minutes on Sunday, after Vejle's Lasse Flø had cancelled out Andreas Cornelius' fifth-minute opener.
But Ndjee, who moved to the Lions from the Kadji Sport Academy in Cameroon in January, made his mark with two strikes to put the game beyond the hosts.
His first was an instinctive strike to fire in a rebound with seven minutes of normal time remaining, before Viktor Dadason made it 3-1 when beating the offside trap.
Ndjee then added gloss to the result deep in stoppage time with a beautiful piece of skill – flicking the ball over a defender, controlling it, and prodding home.
"I'm not completely satisfied with the full 90 minutes, but it's just important that we start winning the games after the long period without wins, and I also think that we are progressing as a team," said head coach Bo Svensson afterwards.
"It obviously means a lot that quality comes on from the bench. Both for the players themselves and for the whole group, and also that our opponents know that we have a broad squad with a lot of quality.
"They came on with lots of energy and created some game-deciding situations, and that's how it should be. I've always said that it's not just about the 11 that starts, but also about the 11 that finishes.
"When we selected the team today, we had in mind both the fact that there are two more games coming this week, but also the nature of the pitch and the expected match pattern.
"For example, we started with Viktor Claesson, who has been crucial as a substitute before because he is good at reading the long balls up against Cornelius and running deep on the last line, and he did that until his strength ran out.
"In the second half we could have probably done better offensively until the goals started coming, but I think we played them right, and they only had one shot on goal after the break.
"We kept the game well in their half and were in excellent control, and then the youngsters came on from the bench with lots of energy and gave the offence what it needed."
