Jonas Wind: I hope for a warm welcome in Parken

Jonas Wind returns to Parken on Thursday as an SC Braga player when his team face F.C. Copenhagen in the Danish capital – and the Dane hopes to receive a warm welcome from the home crowd four years after his departure from the club.

Wind won two Danish Superliga titles as an FCK player, having come through the Talent Department. The Denmark international joined Wolfsburg in 2022 and moved to Braga in the summer.

He undertook media duties with his head coach Carlos Vicens on Wednesday evening in preparation for Thursday's UEFA Conference League showdown with FCK.

Naturally, Wind was asked how it felt to be back at his former home ground.

"I’ve missed being back," he said. "I had an incredibly good time here with many great experiences. So, to get a taste of it again – to be back in Parken and play in front of the fantastic fans here – I think it will be a special experience.

"I hope and expect a warm welcome from the fans. I don’t see why it would be any different and I hope they remember the good moments we shared together over the years."

Wind has been back in Parken since leaving the club in January 2022, but only for Denmark internationals or as a fan. This is his first experience arriving at the national stadium with an opposing team.

He explained how he has been gradually building up his fitness this autumn following a long period sidelined by injury. However, neither he nor Carlos Vicens would provide specific details regarding how much playing time he might receive on Thursday evening.

I would like to return one day
Wind did, however, provide a specific answer to a question from bold.dk regarding whether there had been any dialogue with F.C. Copenhagen when he was set to leave Wolfsburg last spring.

"Well, there was to a certain extent," he said. "There is always a mutual interest, given that this is a place I care about a great deal. So, there was some contact, but nothing that ever came close to materialising.

"I made it clear quite early on that I wanted to stay abroad for a while longer before eventually returning home, though I certainly won't hide the fact that I would like to come back one day.

"But the time isn't right yet. I still feel I have some good years left abroad and things I want to achieve outside of Denmark, so it wasn't really a serious option. Braga was, and is, fantastic opportunity, and I’m very happy here. I’ve settled in well and haven't regretted it at all."

There are still some tickets remaining for the game this evening, which kicks off at 9pm.
