Jacob Neestrup says goodbye

Head coach Jacob Neestrup says goodbye after almost 200 games at the helm of F.C. Copenhagen

Jacob Neestrup has today departed F.C. Copenhagen by mutual consent and, despite the Lions currently sitting eighth in the Danish Superliga, the head coach can look back at his record-breaking achievements.

Neestrup leaves the club having overseen the most successful period for a Danish club ever. In three-and-a-half years, the club has won two Danish titles, two Danish Cups, and reached a third Cup final. Meanwhile, under Neestrup's leadership, F.C. Copenhagen competed in three Champions League campaigns and in the Conference League.

"The club has shown me trust and support all the way - probably more than most others would have received in a similar situation. It is not easy to say goodbye, but that is what is needed now, and we completely agree on that," says Neestrup.

Neestrup, 38, started at KB as an eight-year-old and worked his way up through the youth ranks as a teenager until he made his debut for F.C. Copenhagen's first team at the age of 18 in the autumn of 2006.

Later followed a number of years as both assistant and head coach of F.C. Copenhagen's U17 team and then assistant coach of the first team. In 2019, he was hired as head coach of Viborg FF, before returning to Copenhagen in January 2021 as assistant coach.

Neestrup was then appointed head coach of F.C. Copenhagen on 20 September 2022.

“The club has been the focal point of my life for almost 30 years, and it has been a great honour for me to be at the helm of F.C. Copenhagen. I have done my absolute best, and I am proud of what we have achieved together,” adds Neestrup.

“F.C. Copenhagen has always been a big and important part of my life, and I will miss representing the club. I would like to thank all my colleagues, past and present players and all the Copenhageners who support the club so massively both at home and away. Thank you for the great support."

Assistant coach Stefan Madsen is also leaving the club.

Neestrup and Madsen and will participate in a home match in the near future, where they will receive their well-deserved tribute from Parken and F.C. Copenhagen.
