The first Lioness says goodbye

F.C. Copenhagen’s first ever Women’s Team player Josephine Lech has announced her decision to retire from football to focus on her medical studies.

It was a historic day when Lech signed her contract with F.C. Copenhagen’s  Lionesses on 13 June 2024. She was the team's first signing, she started the very first match, and she scored the team's first-ever goal after five minutes of play in a cup tie against Svogerslev on 14 August 2024.

Lech has been there every step of the way as a fantastic ambassador for F.C. Copenhagen’s women's team, and she will be missed by everyone in and around the club as she now ends her career to focus on her medical studies.

"We are very sad to say goodbye to Josephine already. She has been such an important part of the team since the beginning, and she has given us so much – both on and off the pitch. That said, we naturally have full understanding for her decision and wish her the best of luck with her studies," says F.C. Copenhagen’s Head of Women's Football, Romaney Pinnock.

Lech leaves the club with an impressive goals average. She has scored a goal every other game, with 19 in 39 appearances.

"Being part of F.C. Copenhagen has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I'm incredibly proud of everything we've achieved together. It won't be easy to do without football, but of course I'll be cheering from the stands. Thank you to everyone in and around the club for everything," says Lech.
