F.C. Copenhagen sign Scott McKenna on loan

F.C. Copenhagen have signed defender Scott McKenna on loan from Nottingham Forest F.C. until the end of the season. The Scotland international therefore swaps the Premier League for the Superliga.

McKenna, 27, joined Nottingham Forest from Scottish club Aberdeen in 2020 and has played more than 100 games for the club. He also boasts 33 caps for Scotland.

Christiansen: An experienced and strong player
"We’ve had the desire to strengthen defensively, where we’ve been affected by injuries to key players,” says Peter Christiansen, sporting director of F.C. Copenhagen. “With the arrival of Scott, we get an experienced and strong player who will be able to contribute immediately.

“He has proven himself at a very high level and we are sure that we will get a lot out of him this spring.”

McKenna: A really good opportunity
McKenna will wear shirt number 26 for the Lions and is looking forward to becoming an F.C. Copenhagener.

"I see it as a really good opportunity for me,” he says. “F.C. Copenhagen are an internationally respected club who play for the titles every season, and who have done fantastically well on the international stage.

“I'm really looking forward to meeting the team and joining the training camp, which is a perfect starting point for me in terms of getting into the group quickly. I will do my utmost to ensure that the title comes back to Copenhagen again.”

Neestrup: Has been a top priority
For head coach Jacob Neestrup, the arrival of McKenna is a welcome boost for the squad.

"I am very happy that we’ve been able to secure an agreement with Scott, who has been a top priority on my part as well,” says Neestrup.

“We get a player who from day one can give us additional quality, competition and stability in that position. He has a strong physical presence on the pitch, a very impressive aerial game and good ball distribution, so we see him fitting in well with our way of playing. Now he has a good opportunity to get stuck into things with the training camp.”

Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen would like to welcome Scott to the club and the city.
